The chances of me blogging this were about 1688 to 1

I was talking about the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy the other day and it brought up some good discussion so I thought it would make a good blog: I was wrong.

First off, it's one of the most confusing movies of ALL time. A creative narrator's voice puts some comedy into a potentially boring topic. The first thing that happens is the annihilation of the earth. An interesting way to start a movie and a great transition from a guy who had a boring life,  to a guy yanked into space as he started an adventure he didn't understand.

It's a movie where your head is completely sideways for 3/4 of the film, and the rest of the time you're trying to get a grip on what exactly is going on. There's basically three story lines going on at the same time, and 3/4 of the way through the movie you have to REALLY pay attention otherwise you could get confused as to what happened during an emotional part. The director uses the main character to kind of shade other characters throughout, making it hard to understand them from his perspective.

I'll probably go ahead and watch this again in a month or so, and have a totally different opinion of what it was/why it was made.  I can't say you get something different from it every time, but you do appreciate what you got the first time more and more as you view more and more.

The Son of Odin

I think it's safe to say that the average human enjoys watching the good guy beat the bad guy right? I mean, there's some part of the human brain that is programed to enjoy justice happening. In every story there is a main character, and there is a protagonist, otherwise, it's just a documentary film about some random person that wasn't written to drop your jaw.

Well Thor came out today and I went t see it at 12 am. Seeing super hero movies at midnight is just something I've done for the longest time, I don't even remember my first one any more. But they have been getting gradually worse and it's hard to keep a tradition like that going with 10 dollar tickets. However, Thor is the first one this year and I really felt like going to the theater 2 hours early to get in line for good seats in the theater (that's a pet-peeve of mine, cant stand the bottom of a theater), watching the same stupid slides over and over again, and finally taking a 5 minute nap right before the movie starts. I also had a chance to get away to the bathroom before the previews even started! Yay. This blog's not about the experience though so...

Thor is the story of Hercules. It's amazing that all of a sudden modern movies are using kid stories in a scenario that intrigues adults so they can make all the money they need for the next one and more. It kind of disgusts me, but at the same time, I really enjoyed watching Thor throw his hammer through several heads at once. I can sit here and talk down the system all day, but the truth is, I enjoyed Avatar, I enjoyed Transformers, and I enjoyed Thor. The scenario/effects they can use to intrigues adults now really peak my interest. But I do know that there is a fine line between something like Thor and Inception, or the Source Code. Those movies stand out among the rest not because of their effects, but because they are not a children's story. They are original stories that make the jaw drop for the right reasons, not because something blows up and glass shatters everywhere.

Today, I will not tell you to go see Thor, I can tell you to go see just another piece of the Avenger's puzzle so that you're up to pace with that, and I could also tell you to go see a movie with Natalie Portman cause she's easy on the eyes, but I won't. I like her as the respectable actor she's grown into over the past few years, but she's used as tool to get someone like me to be interested in the movie that much more, she's not in it as a pivotal character, or because she's a good actress, she's there just to be there. Good for her, bad for us.

This coming summer movies are all movies that look promising, but be warned, my guess is that this will not be the only disappointing blog post of the summer.

Thank you for reading, it pleases me greatly. Until next time

The American Captain

Okay so I had a poll on the blog about what future movie looks best and Captain American won, so I figured I would blog about how it looks and ponder what it's gonna look like.

It used to be when a super hero movie could just been seen and it would automatically be enjoyed. I mean, it was a about a superhero! Like the first Spiderman, X-men, or Blade. Nowadays, stuff like G.I. Joe or Fantastic 4 get criticized for just being a movie about a comic. They simply just can't be enjoyed without an amazing plot that knocks the socks off anybody.

However, this summer's series of movies like Thor, Captain America, or the newest extension of the X-men series show amazing promise with a public that's eager for more movies after a drought of nothing but Drama, comedy, and horror. Finally the public is getting a group of action and adventure it hasn't been satisfied with in a long time.

But to touch on what I can about Captain America based off a 2 and a half minutes of introduction to The First Avenger. Which is topic of it's own: A new series about the Avengers from a vast variety of comics. But anyway, Captain America is played by Chris Evans who is normally a huge dude, but technology isn't about to disappoint, for using some amazing tool they do, they've got him looking like he weighs like 80 pounds at the beginning, but then in the trailer it shows them doing an operation on him (not too much different from the one in the X-men movie about Wolverine) and he gains like 200 pounds!

Also, based off the trailer, it looks like they've done a pretty good job making his shield believable. As it is a boomerang/lethal weapon/greatest defensive tool ever. Which is kind of his super power since he really doesn't have any others, but yet, he's a superhero.

Anyway, I'll watch a movie soon and post it up as soon as possible. Keep yours eyes wide, and stay tuned!!

"Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes." Jim Carrey

Okay so my guess is that most of you haven't heard of series, "The Last Airbender" If you haven't, it's not that big of a deal. Most TV series take up time, and something like this is quite addictive and can take you from other things more important. My advice would be to wait till you have at least a month of have the work you normally have and kill the whole series. If you don't like TV series, they actually originated from a series of books, so you could technically read them and enjoy what you've been missing. If neither of the above apply to you, a guy named M. Night Shyamalan did his attempt at the series with a movie to represent the first of three books.

Let me tell you right from the start, if you thought Twighlight was a desecration to a book, ha, it's about half as bad as this failure was. Nevertheless, is have a group, or even a friend that you watch a garbage movie with to make fun at it, this is the perfect movie with the most ridiculas dialague perfect for insults.

Now this is not to say don't see this movie, I don't think there would ever be a case I would say don't see this movie. Because every movie has a purpose, and you can either find that purpose and be interested, or you can find ridiculasness in that purpose and critique it with your own thoughts. Whether or not you think it possible, critiquing a movie is a great way to exercise your brain and practice developing your own ideas, a great tool for writing in late high school and even college.

In this film, there is so much room for critiques it almost becomes your own by the time your done. But with that it just shows how creative you can get, cause the better you make that film with your own thoughts, the more your working that part of your brain.

I figured I would go ahead and blog about it cause it's not something most do: watch awful movies. Most avoid because of a waste of time, but when your chillin with your pals, and working that brain, I'd say that's a good way to spend an afternoon or evening. So don't stick up your nose up at the next awful movie you hear about, perk those years up and start training your brain. It's something I've been using Netflix for (Netflix=AMAZING), cause there are endless awful movies you can simply stream with it's plan. No Netflix? Find someone who has it!

"There is no such thing as a smooth road with a bumpy one to compare it to"

I realize that recently I've been blogging about some of the more recent films to hit the theaters, so I thought I'd go old school with something less up to date. But as I thought about it, I started thinking of stuff like star wars or star trek, and even the lord of the rings trilogy. These are all series that I remember enjoying as they were released (Not so much star trek, that's just a little older than me) a while back. But then as I thought ( I do think), there are unfortunate ones who did not grow up the way I did, and maybe don't even know what Star Wars really is.

It's a really sad fact that something like star wars can be forgotten through a single generation, while something like transformers is all the rage in the sci-fi world of movies. I like that Star Trek is re-inventing their series with a twist to not only make it more fascinating for people who are not completely controlled by sci-fi, but because their releasing their movies with the technology it asks for.

Now, George Lucas prolly rings a bell with most of you, for those of you who it doesn't, he is basically the reason star wars exists, he also made an extremely popular series called indiana jones. Now I know as I mentioned the downfall of star wars and the new uprising of star trek, the thought of re-doing star wars might have popped into your head. So to kill that thought I'll be using the most recent Indiana Jones movie as evidence why it's a bad idea.

Indiana Jones is first and foremost a great series: attractive to guys because Indi is a guy who single handily takes down ten guys with a whip and gets the girl all at the same time, and also attractive to girls because first of all, it's harrison ford, what girl is gonna change the channel from that??? But also because of the historical facts thrown into each of the films that makes Indi's detective work so interesting. Now the only problem is, the series was a trilogy, the closure at the end of the third movie left the audience satisfied but yet, yearning for more.

Towards the end of the first decade of the 21st century however, something changed. As i sat anxious for Transformers to finally start, I saw the whip and the boots. I was shocked, one little teaser trailer changed my view on the entire Indiana Jones series. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was set to be released May 22 of 2008. It was madness, after about 10 years of silence from Indi, he was suppose to return as a 60 year old guy who could STILL take down 10 guys with his whip. The concept shown in later trailers showed promise, and as people started to take the thought of the movie seriously, people also began to ask why, why all of sudden bring back a dead series with only a connection to very first film? Money obviously, but it more than that. Indiana Jones, and star wars weren't the only things that died when they ended, A little bit of George Lucas went with both of them. His two big money makers were gone, and he had almost nothing left.

So he brought back his invincible womanizer to get him some fast cash. Little did the audience know, the movie was just another way of Lucas spitting in the face of his fans. Of course, for anyone who's still curious, I'm not going to ruin it for you, but good luck not crying by the end. \

So there you have it, a full look into why star wars can't be done again, Star Trek works because of the big black hole, star wars doesn't have that, star wars doesn't have an alternate reality, star wars is a one time thing, and even if George Lucas was thrown aside and someone bought the rights and retried, what kind of Star Wars fan would see someone else's take on the series, what could they do to it without killing the Star Wars George Lucas created?

Do you feel like watching the original star wars now? I hope so, it's a good series with bad acting, enjoy!

"That's what perseverance and mental toughness are all about -- how you respond to negative times."

It wasn't until this year that I really admired and watched out for good quotes. Therefor, beware what you say, because either 1: I'll hear it, or 2: It'll end up on the internet and I'll read it. In all to say, I've begun to really listen hard to what people are saying in order to find a valuable quote that will inspire me throughout my life.

The same goes for when I watch movies, you'll find that in most movies there is a specific line or quote that is repeated throughout the film to re-state a point or to reinforce one. So why not look out for that??? I mean, that one word or line could be the reason for the making of the film in the first place, that's a major thing to look out for.

So this blog is about The Source Code, and therefor, will blow your mind. No but really, I saw this about a week after it came out, and was led to believe it would be somewhat like the trailer depicts it, but as I was watching, I was happily surprised it wasn't. While it looked interesting and it had a new concept, it has an unbelievably unique plot that would impress the pants off of any movie goer looking for something fresh and fad. Excuse my attempt to demonstrate enthusiasm through blog, if you haven't notice it's not really my thing.

Anyway, a couple blogs ago I touched on the fact that Inception is referenced in many of my blogs, partly because it was an idol I struggled with for awhile, and partly because it has raw material worth referencing. And what do you know, I've got another little reference here for you.

So in Inception, the script and visual images show and tell us that this little machine with a button in the center puts people out cold in a heartbeat. This along with a couple of other things, are the flaws to the movie. The script just didn't have the time it needed to fully develop and give the info most watchers wanted.

Now with The Source Code, it starts out similarly. The watcher is given signs that this machine in the film takes someone back in time for only 8 minutes and then time is up and they die. The difference is with this one is that instead of just giving the watcher that fact, that have a character come to the rescue and explain how it works and operates. A conversation not for the faint hearted unfortunately as it is some pretty advanced and technical stuff. But if I could follow it, who couldn't?

Now there's not actually that much that I can tell you about the film without spoiling it (background computer choir) "Awwwwwwwww" But I can tell you if you've found that you agree with 75% of the crap posted here, then you have a 67.39% chance of agreeing with me about this film.

The film shows the characteristics of a hard and persevering worker with a task that at first seems unmanageable. Let me just say that I would gladly pay 10.50 or even more to see this film again. So next time you're at a theater do me a favor and be a good steward with your money: see THIS movie.

P.S. Quick shout out to the poor, needy people and families of Japan as they suffer through even more earthquakes recently. Keep them in your prayers. Hopefully they'll find the courage to persevere.

"There is no such thing as public opinion. There is only published opinion"

Okay, let me just say that after reading about Winston Churchill, I do not want to be Winston Churchill, I just want to be able to speak my original words like him.

So I had to decide on whether to blog about The Fighter, or Sucker Punch. Earlier today I was in a bad mood and I thought trashing Sucker Punch would lift my spirits, but then I thought The Fighter has been out for longer and deserves the blog, whereas Sucker Punch has been out for less than a week and was not even half as good as The Fighter. It was a really hard decision, so I did what anyone with a blog named For Movie Lovers would do, I decided to blog on them both at the same time.

This will be my first time blogging on difference/comparison in movies, so bare with me. Not only is comparing movies something I'd usually advice against, these two movies have almost nothing in common, one's a modernized Rocky, and the other a teenage guys dream after falling asleep to too much video games.

Okay, so I'll go ahead and start by informing that The Fighter is about a boxer who is trying to get a name for himself but is struggling due to lack of proper training and good management. Sucker Punch is about a girl in an Mental Hospital who is fantasizing about being a prostitute who dreams about being a warrior fighting Nazi robots.

One thing that the two movies do have in common is that both of the main characters' goal is to escape. He trying to escape a life of nothing, and she is trying to escape coming in contact with a High Roller. Don't get the impression I thought Sucker Punch was a pointless waste of time, Sucker Punch is a movie that is mildly entertaining and a great way to make other movies look good. I'm also not saying Sucker Punch is one of the worst movies ever, I'm just mad about the whole thing cause I spent 10 and a half dollars on it when I should've done my research to avoid it all together till the dollar theater.

Now The Fighter on the other hand, was a boxing movie: pause, I just have to point out that in my opinion movies about boxing, alien invasions, or Jane Austen type romantic stories are all categories that have the same premise but are done by directors differently with certain twists and turns that make them original. Okay The Fighter was a boxing movie that was only partly about boxing. The audience has to decide why they're watching it, my take on the film was that it was not made for people to only go and see Marky Mark without a shirt hitting people in the face over and over again. It was to show a story of a very interesting but messed up family.

The other thing a watcher must do with this film is to decide who the main character is, obviously most that see it are going to automatically think Mark is the main character, but as I watched it, I saw Christian Bale's character act and knew he was the main character. The movie was about him, his drug problem, and his recovery. Mark's storyline was alongside of that effecting his brother in different ways that changed him for the better.

This is also somewhat similar to Sucker Punch in the way that Sucker's Punches main character turns out to not be the point of the movie. The whole point of the movie is so that she can escape (or at least that is what the audience is shown) but in the end it wasn't about her, it was about a fellow prostitute that she needed to help. My favorite thing about the movie is that it open with a dark screen and a voice saying "Everyone has a guardian angel, they appear in ways we can never realize, and their forms change all the time" That was paraphrased but essentially that's what it said, and just like a well written essay, this thesis is revived again at the end of the movie as the main character realizes she is the guardian angel and that she was meant to be at the hospital to help her friend escape.

$10.50 is a lot to spend on a movie you don't get too much out of, but if you were to ever see it, I believe Sucker Punch has value to one not looking for action, and to one who is.

$0.00 is not a lot to spend on a very good movie, and I hope you will get the chance to watch and observe The Fighter like I did.

Is it possible to out-run your fate?

Okay, so when I first saw a trailer for The Adjustment Bureau I was blown away. First of all, if you plan on seeing the movie before someone spoils it don't read, this is your official spoiler alert. After seeing movies like Inception, or Black Swan, I thought my brain had tossed around enough by movies, little did I know The Adjustment Bureau was just around the corner. The only problem is that there were few, but HUGE errors in my mind by the time the movie was over. During the film it felt like Inception while it constantly kept me engaged and thinking about what was going on. However, my thinking put ideas into my head for how the theory wouldn't end up working, and don't you know, it didn't. The ending of the film killed it.

Now I won't dismiss the film, I'd still recommend it, just not as an entertaining film. I would watch it to see it's flaws and ponder on them.

The movie's basic plot is that there are "people" that control people's destiny and that everyone on earth has a "plan" written for them by who they call The Chairman: The God figure. For anyone that has a fixation with predestination, or is even interested in it at all, this is actually a good movie to see. I don't say that because it's a good depiction and can explain it for you, but what I do mean is that it has a layout of predestination with every human having their own plan written for them.

Lets start by just pointing a couple things out, one, there are many flaws integrated into the movie if you're looking at it for predestination, things like the fact that the main character gets off of line from his plan, which can't happen with predestination. Two, the way to watch the movie is to see what the world would be like without predestination. Okay, so here's a picture for you, let's say you're watching a movie, like this one, and you're enjoying it and think that the fact that it has twists and turns is compelling. Boom, there's life, full of twists and turns. But then towards the end it's all ruined, everything was fine and made sense about the "Plan" system until you realize that a human can stand up to the chairman and change his plan to the way he likes it. That doesn't sound like a very good chairman does it? No, therefor, why should that chairman deserve to be in charge of everyone's destiny? He shouldn't, my take is that the writer was dismissing God and predestination together for an hour and a half, but in the end, it just showed me if God were to let us decide for ourselves on how things are drawn out and we can go against his will, what's the point of God in the first place?

Thanks for reading, don't want to confuse you too much but that really is all I got out of the movie, it's not something to see for any reason but this in my opinion.

Everything looks like it's 8 Mile now, The beat comes back and everybody lose themselves

Alright back to reality, The other night I sat and watched the movie 8 mile. Eminem (the artist) stars in this film about a guy some call Rabbit. It's not really a movie a blog like mine can handle, but I'm gonna try. The movie was made for only a certain type of people, anyone else that stumbled in to watch it more than likely got up and left.

The movie is about a bunch of rappers, it's really not a style that's for many people. It was really just for people that listen to Eminem and know what his music is like, and can enjoy most of it/all of it. This is how it works... 8 mile is to the average movie watcher, as a comedy is to a cutter hiding in a closet all day. So you get the picture now, not your typical entertaining movie. Now that's not to say it wasn't entertaining, it was, but this blog is going to be my pure opinion that can't really go for anyone else. I liked the film, but that's cause me and Eminem are like this: E3

You see how those line up? How the three points of the 3 hit the three points of the E? Cool, well next point.

The movie (whether or not it had the intentions) displayed a great perspective of a bond between to guys. There were up points for them, and there were certainly low points, but like it should be in a movie, conflicts are resolved, and they see each other as an equal at the end.

Another thing I liked to watch was the relationship between Rabbit, and who I guessed was his sister from a different man. Rabbit would have moments of rage and anger/aggression, but then he saw her and immediately calmed down and looked at her with loving eyes that fathers usually show their daughters. It was bitter sweet moment as rabbit kicked the crap out of dude while she hid under the table, and then picked her up as though nothing had happened.

Off topic mention: I'll be bloggin again soon on a more watchable film, so stay tuned!

Journaling is very importnant

So I was thinking about what to blog on next, and I realized that I've blogged on action, drama, comedy, but not a really good romantic film. I went on to think, hmm, hey! The notebook is a romantic movie and was said to be one of the best romantic movies ever, so then I decided to blog about the notebook. Yay!

When I watched The Notebook, you know what, I don't know why I watched it. But that's beside the point, I'm extremely happy I saw it. It's one of the few moves out there that made me cry. Twice actually, the first was when I saw Rachel Mcadams in the rain trying to talk and all she could do was yell and scare the crap out of Ryan Gosnell, the second was the most climactic moment of the film that swept the heart of thousands of americans.

In the year 2004, a few movies did this thing where they have an older person tell a story that you assume is their own. The Notebook was the first one to do it however, therefor, props to it.

There are moments in movies when you watch them that make this kind of weird sensation happen. First you freeze, cause you know you very well could cry, second,  you try to garb something, because you get this weird tiggling feeling throughout your body, third, you smile, you can't help it, you have to smile whether or not you're happy, it's just one of those moments. It's a moment a writer should pride themself on cause it's not easy to write on paper. It's also something I don't typically welcome because I feel like it's a cheat to draw you into the story. The Notebook was the exception...

From scene one when the main charcter lays eyes on the other main character I was immediately grasped for 2 hours, maybe I was just in the mood for a Jane Austen type story, or maybe the movie really was one of the best romantics ever, I don't know. But I'm guessing the ladder.

While I did like this movie, I will say it's not for everyone. The movie is definiitely a Jane Austen type of thing with the two characters that are perfect for each other, parents that constantly look like they're trying to afflict pain on teir daughter, and that other guy the parents like, but doesn't get the girl's affection.

Lastly, I liked that the way the main guy got the girl was by hard work on the house, he made it just the way she wanted him to, and he did it by himself, just because he thought she MIGHT come see him if he did. It was putting a lot of time and effort into a chance, but I guess that's what love is all about. Lol, that sounded so corny. Till I blog again!

Stubborness

So the other day I thought I should blog about this one movie I saw awhile back called Defiance, and so I shall...

Okay so here's the scoop, the movie is about a group of jews that have to hide and survive in the woods while the holocaust is taking place. Daniel Craig stars, and is supported by a great unknown cast of all kinds of people. When I first started the movie I had my doubts about, but then again, I really didn't know anything about it. I very quickly realized how wrong I was to doubt, as it is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. It's Top Ten material actually, maybe like 9 though. But never the less, a great survival tale, and I would also like to say that I love survival tales. Any Pocahontas type thing, or even that first part of Ironman in Afghanistan.

This one is a little different though, the jews are forced to get food somehow, obviously! So they raid Nazi food transports, and (do their best to) try not to kill anyone in the process. After all, murdering for food would be the same thing as murdering for anything else in their God's eyes.

It's very interesting to watch as the jews constantly have to set up camp, and then leave so the Nazis can't catch them, and while it is somewhat of a depressing tale, a couple lines of comedy are thrown in in great places so you while get exhausted by the constant running and hiding. There are peaceful moments in the movie to help you catch your breath, and it also gives the film a chance to show you how jews operated during that time of horror, and how sometimes spirits were down, but it only took one person to them right back up.

Lastly I would like to point out that it's BOND for crying out loud! See this movie if you haven't, see this movie again if you have and get something new out of it. Just please see the film, it really is phenomenal.

Wax on, wax off

So the other day when I saw the Hurt Locker, I also had 2 and a half hours of peaceful fighting with the new Karate Kid.

It was interesting seeing some of Will Smith's facial expressions escape from his son as he got bashed in the face, or when he picked his jacket up. Even their laugh/shocked voice sound similar. Jackie Chan also stars as the famous mentor Mr. Hun, and didn't do such a bad job himself.

Anyway, the film was just a different interpretation of the original film, but a good one never the less. In fact, whether or not it's because i'm lenient towards modern film, i thought it was actually better than the original film. The way it was written was also a little more meaningful and believable. Since the original bad guys were a few high school white boys that learned karate, but in this new one, they used Chinese kids whose ancient tradition was to learn kong fu. The only problem was that it was kong fu, the movie should've been called the Kong Fu kid.

I would also just like to say that in this film, I cried when he completed his training, there's just something about those martial art films that get to me, the goes for pixar films actually. This version also did a great job with the training process for the kid.

Now Martial Art films are known for cheesy comedy, but that cheesiness always makes me laugh, no matter how dumb it is, it's still funny to me. Jackie Chan however, kind of annoys me most of the time, however, in this film, he was all like "Oh I'm so tired, Oh, I'm so drunk, Oh, I hit my head again cause I'm angry" Only he said it in a way that just made me get so pumped I really want to karate chop something. But not really.

The movie was a very tolerable film that I really did enjoy, especially as a karate kid film.

And the award for best picture goes to...

The hurt locker might just be in my top 3 movies ever. I have never seen a movie so engaging from the first minute.

I started the movie and right away the dialogue just grabbed me right out of my seat. I think the fact that I was watching a movie about a bomb defuser who also supported Ben Affleck in The Town really made me appreciate the acting. So many scenes made me just drop my jaw at the sight of things this guy had to deal with.

I think I would've voted for this for best picture no matter what year it was nominated. It didn't much to compete with last year, but it would've given The King's Speech a run for it's money. Whether or not it would've won, I would've been unsure until it was actually announced.

The relationship between the three guys in the squad was depicted and evolved superbly throughout the entire film. Watching them work together, drink together, or playfully fighting each other showed so much about, not just their relationship with each other, but how they operate outside of the war. Which is also hinted at during emotional moments when they actually open up to each other.

The film also depicted terrorist attacks in a way that made me pretty scared for them even though I knew it was fictional. It was so realistic I could've sworn it was a true story.

If you haven't already seen this movie, do so. It is a war movie, not your typical run and gun and cuss war, but it did still have it's fair share of language and adult topics throughout. Nothing sexual, but still deserved the R rating.

I hope that wouldn't hold you back, because I feel so bad it took me THIS long to see it. I have never been so impressed.

"It's a totaly perfect world man!"

GAME TIME!!! Okay so this game is about Jeff bridges. Please no cheating or looking/asking around. But the question for you to answer is...

What is my favorite movie Jeff Bridges has acted in?
The rules are simple, it does not matter how big of a role he played, or how much I like the movie, just him. Now the here's the kicker.
If you are the first to leave the right answer in the comment box, you get to pick the next movie I blog about! I'm obviously not going to leave the answer in the blog, but I'm still blogging about Tron Legacy.

I went and saw it at the dollar theater the other day with a couple of friends, and was quite taken. I had read many reviews on the movie before I had the chance to ever see the film with my own eyes. It was all "Special effects this" and "Sound mixing that" No one seemed to really understand what Tron is.

Tron is a movie for those kids addicted to legos, or open minded architects. It isn't for the narrow-minded, story seeking, acting wanted, movie snobs. Now you're prolly saying, "But that's you, isn't it?" And you'd be correct, except I had seen the old film and was completely intrigued about a concept of a completely different world that was controllable by humans through technology.

Now the movie is just PG, but really didn't take much away from the film except for a few awkward times  characters get frustrated but can't curse.

But the movie was still able to grab the viewer with amazing action sequences of an revolutionized Lite Bike game. Exciting to watch, fun to laugh with, and a hurting storyline that could seriously use some work. But my opinion is still to see the movie. Too rad to miss!

P.S. Inception got the most votes from you guys for best film. Less than a week and we'll see you're right!

"Harry, what happened to your glasses?"

I'll give you five cents if you tell me what movie the quotes from.

Okay, now the rules are basically this, you guess the movie correctly, you get a nickel, you guess incorrectly, you're stuck reading my blog forever, and I trust the honor system applies in our little game here.

Okay, so you prolly saw it at first, and were like, "Hey, that's Harry Potter!" But then you realized I made a contest of it, and now you're thinking it's too easy. Any other guesses?

The movie is When Harry Met Sally.

Okay now that that's done, I'm blogging on Harry Potter.

I would like to go ahead and say that if you haven't been keeping up with the movie you stop reading now. I'm going to be blogging on the newest addition since it's (in my opinion) the best of the 7.

Okay so the movie kicks off with Voldemort himself meeting with his homeboys. Interesting scene actually, a little debate, and then someone dies. Typical Voldemort.

But what was the best part about this movie, was it the fact it kept to the actual story pretty well, or the great acting jobs, or the fact that they were huntin down horcruxes. Who knows? ME!

Personally, what I thought made this movie great was all of the above. It actually made me smile to myself because I was enjoying it so much. Now there has been a lot of controversy over one particular scene where a horcrux makes Ron mad by showing him Harry and Hermione making out. Basic yes, now the controversy is that they had their clothes off and were being quite theatrical with it. I will not be sharing my opinion on the matter because I neither approve, nor disapprove. The scene was an exact replica of the book which is what all of the Potter fans have been asking for. On the other hand, I think they could have bent it a little this one time, but then again, it didn't actually show anything, and I didn't even realize at first that they didn't have clothes on.

What I want to know is, how did the horcrux know what they looked like, and is Ron going to have that mental image of Harry for the rest of his life?

"When waiting for a king to apologize, one can wait a long time"

When I first saw a trailer for The King's Speech I immediately thought "Why didn't they just make it four hours long and put it on masterpiece theater?" I never thought it would turn into a huge film getting recognition from the Oscars, that everyone would rave about. I was completely wrong.

Now I'm sure a lot of you are not aware that Geoffrey Rush, aka, the speech therapist, was previously a pirate lord cursed, killed, and brought back to life. Why would you, unless you are a huge fan of him and know the name. However, he is, but you wouldn't know it from this movie either. I half fell in love with him by the time the movie was over. He did such an amazing job with his role, it almost made me cry for joy.

Now, Collin Firth, every girl and her mother knows him, and maybe even some of gents would recognized the name. He was Mr. Darcy in the original Pride and Prejudice.  Everyone said how great of a job he did, and i'm not about to go and argue that; it would be incredibly hard to play a character with a speech defect, when you can talk perfectly fine. However, I don't know how/why he's making such a ruckus. I mean, yes he's charming, handsome, chivalrous,  and everything a guy could possibly want, but that shouldn't get him an award over James Franco. I won't be surprised if he wins an Oscar, nor disappointing, just a little sorry for Franco.

Now to Tom Hooper, I swear, if he gets an Oscar over Fincher or Nolan, I'm going to just turn the whole show off. He did a fine job directing, but the other two are just too far out of his league. But to be fair, I don't know of any ways to re-do the movie to make it better, but hey, that's why I'm not a director. I would love to see some more of his films to see if this one was his typical style, or if he just went out of his way to be different.

Lastly, I would like to throw in there that Beletrix Lestrange/The Queen of Hearts was phenomenal as well. I will always remember how much she can change; the typical actor doesn't go from killing Sirius Black, to being the next Queen. She is just one of the many reasons to look foward to part 2 of The Deathly Hallows!!!

It's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's...it's...it's...it's...it's...it's...it's...it's...it's...

A Dragon

I finally got to see How to Train Your Dragon. I never had wanted to see it 'till it was a nomination for best animated, but I had heard good things.

Okay, so you know how wit animated movies start you up with a little montage of the setting? Then they go and introduce you to the main character/show you his/her flaws? Well chi-ching, this one was no different.

I was really intrigued by the movie not because of an original story line, but because it was about dragons. I mean, they're just so cool! I feel like the writers also spent a lot of time on the dragons (ha, cause that's what the movie's about!), like their specific features, or how they can only breathe so much fire. The problem was with the whole film is that, again, trailers gave it away. It' one of those movies that need a 10 second promo trailer and that's it.

Like I said, I was still entertained the whole time, but that's because I love dogs, which apparently share a lot of characteristics with dragons. The way the dragons moved, looked around, and even sat and stared at different characters, were all very much like dogs.

Another thing the movie did well was character development. Or at least for the first half, the characters completely change mid-way through the movie. I'll admit, if they didn't, the movie would be extremely long, but the way the writers made the change disrupted what they had introduced me to and changed what I was watching. It wasn't "How to Train Your Dragon", it was "What to do with your pet in a life threatening situation"

Guess who's back???

What's up you mother forgeters!?! I know I haven't blogged in awhile and I am sincerely sorry for that!

So what's going on? Oh right, one way conversation. So personally, I haven't really seen much lately, so here we go with a signature Ellen review!

Let's go ahead and hit the one and only, Smart People. One of my personal favs of Miss Page. It's about a college professor who has been a complete jerk ever since his wife died. Ellen plays his daughter, one of his two children. So this professor has this brother you see, and he is a cool person to hang out with, but is also a bum with no money. The professor loses his license, and has to have an all time driver to get him around. What a coincidence! You see, his brother needs a place to crash, so they trade!

Their relationship has been bad in the past and they don't get along, so this makes the driving thing annoying for one, and the house arrangements for the other. The movie is a dromedy, and has its ups (great story/Ellen Page!) and also it's downs (Sarah Jessica Parker). Fortunately it's ups are greater than it's downs. I definitely recommend this one to anybody who's okay with 1 or 2 F bombs.

I love you crazy readers who read about movies! I promise to get back in the habit of posting for you!

Blog Update

Just blogging to say thanks to everyone following. Last month this almost had four times as many view as December. I took a little break this past week after the Oscar noms came out. Sadly, that relates to how many movies I've seen in the past week. I encourage you to keep following as it should be as good/better as the blog continues. Thanks again!

Blue....man....group....

You know that commercial for the blue man group? I know, I get really into the group every time I see that thing, it looks so cool.

Anyway, the oscar noms are out and there has been a lot of disappointment/awkward glances at the computer. I personally have actually not really looked into the Oscars before this year and was not really aware of some of the categories involved. Like the fact that it's not "Best director", its "Best achievement in directing" Which automatically puts people such as The Coen Brothers, Chris Nolan, and David Fincher out of the question even though they're nominees. Because the so called "Achievements" they achieved this year were not very surprising. Of course their movies would be good, they fit the category for "Best director"

It is also strange that foreign/animated films can get two different awards. They could win best foreign/animated  film, and best film. It really isn't all that fair. But whatever, I guess we'll see what happens.

I would also like to state that I do think Inception will win at least one award in The Academy Awards.

Demonic Angels

Buh boom, aush!

So I watched Angels and Demons with my big brother today. I had already seen it, but my brother hadn't so I thought I'd watch it again with older pair of eyes.

Much to my surprise, i got a lot of different stuff out of it the second time around. Angels flying everywhere, Demons running around cursing people, and a detective with a magnifying glass lokkin' for clues all prevent you from seeing "What lies beneath" Boom! Shout out!

Okay, I don't want to confuse you too much, but there were no angels, demons, or detective/there was a detective. But the movie was still good! It's actually a prelude to The Davinci Code, while they made the movie after the Davinci Code.

The main character is a symbolosist (if i'm saying that right) that knows basically everything about Vatican city and it's history. Tom Hanks is someone I have always loved in any role he's played. One of my top ten picks for a male actor.

He had a good supporting cast in this film including Ewan Mcgregor. They all did a great job with the parts they were entrusted to. I don't exactly know how well the movie interprets the book it's based on, but I think even if it is a horrible representation, it was still a great movie.

Anyway, this main character has to try and stop a group called The Illuminati who are threatening to kill four of the candidates to replace the late pope. He is a great suspense thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat, a great and fun history lesson, as well as a great little lesson on Catholics and some of their traditions.

I would totally recommend anyone to see it, a couple gruesome scenes that do not last all that long so it is pretty appropriate for any age.

On another note, the Oscar nominations are tomorrow morning! So expect to hear from me again!

You're waiting for a train, you think you know where this train will take you...

It's funny that almost every time I blog, something from Inception is thrown in there somewhere. In other words, you really have to see Inception!

Well this time Inception has been tossed into the blog about Unstoppable. Just got a chance to see it at a dollar theater, and I was a little skeptical about it actually; especially because The Social Network was also playing there and I totally wanted to see that on a big screen (not that a big screen would change it very much) just so I could say I did so.

Okay, Unstoppable (I know, I'm totally gonna start throwing shout-outs for The Social Network too) is a movie about one minor accident that turned into something huge. I know I know, it's been done to death, but hey, I didn't know it was coming before I went into the theater. Anyway, Denzel Washington and Chris Pine star as a train driver and a train conductor. Now something that was interesting to me was the fact that I had no idea whatsoever what was involved in being a train driver or conductor. So the movie was like a little lesson as well as a thriller.

The thing I didn't like about this movie was that the only reason Denzel Washington was in this was to attract an audience. I hate it when movies do this: they take a typical little story line, place a huge movie star in the star role, and get millions of people to see it just for a couple of joke that were Mr. Washington's kind of humor. Honestly, anyone can play the proud old guy that wants to make the new guy prove himself. I can't believe I'm saying this: Nicolas Cage could play that kind of role!

Now on the other hand, Denzel Washington did a great job. I don't want to take away from this too much, but it just makes me mad that he was in the movie. Now you Denzel fans would say he should have been in that movie, he was fantastic; I don't disagree, but the fact that someone would be mad that I would suggest getting someone else just means they only saw the movie cause he was in it. Case closed.

Now you may ask, well should I see this movie? The answer is: I'm not going to say, I'm not happy I didn't miss the opportunity to it i theaters, but I'm not sad either. I'm just glad I didn't use 10 dollars if that helps.

The Facebook

Well I saw The Social Network like I said I would, and now I blog, as I said I would.

So first off,  It totally deserved the awards it got. It was probably one of the best screen plays I have seen based off true events. I am pretty surprised Mr. Mark allowed them to use the information they did. Not that it was anything you couldn't find on wikipedia, but there's something about a writer putting it on a screen that makes it more shocking.

Anyway, it was the morning before I saw the film that I was going over one of my character development charts, and a few things to look for. I assume most of the people do something similar before every movie, cause the social network hit those points dead on, and ended up winning awards for it. I would also like to point out that it had the most appropriate sound tracks ever (it also won an award for that)

The film is, as everyone says, is a classic story of betrayal that has been done many times. But this: this was done an interesting way. How many of you before seeing the movie knew somewhat of what has happened with facebook since it started? I assume a lot of you had, just as I assume the director knew so, because while you don't know exactly what's going on, the movie's ending scene is a couple hours after the third, or so, scene. Now how can this be? Well yes, it is one of those movies that shifts time in the middle and tries to confuse the crap out of you.

I don't think I can emphasize how much I enjoyed each scene as it flew by. I wish the movie had actually been longer so there could be a little more depth to things that everyone would say doesn't matter, but I still would've liked it. I also want to say that I do believe it deserved to beat Inception in every category they competed in. This movie is definitely one that anyone could sit down, watch, and enjoy. While on the other hand, when someone is about to watch Inception they have to warm up their mind so they can try to understand everything that's going on. So I think The Social Network is the award winner, while Inception is fan winner. No one I know has left watching Inception without questions, and I think the way The Social Network wrapped itself up was a reason it beat Inception.

Globes De Golden

I feel it is my duty as a movie blogger to blog on the golden globes.

Many awards were handed out, and many were presented by some interesting people. Why they had Justin Bieber at a party serving alchohol, or even at a golden globes at all actually, beats me.

A topic that brought up a lot of discussion was the fact that The Social Network was presented with an extremely large amount of trophies. Now I'm not going to say that Inception should have won; I haven't seen The Social Network so it's not my place. But the fact that Nolan didn't get credit for his job directing blew me away.

What also blew me away was the fact that only Nolan and his wife were there to represent for the Incepetion crew. Nobody from the cast was there.

Oh well, props to The Social Network gang for, apparently, a job well done. I know a couple that I talk to via skype somewhat often and chat about movies. The Social Network did come up, but there was much less talk on that than almost any movie I've seen in the past six months, so I deprived myself of watching it. I guess I missed out.

Nevertheless, I plan on watching it/blogging on it, and am very excited to see if the rewards were well deserved, after all, not your typical movie gets the award for Best Film.

My NEXT Blog

Alrighty, this blog is going to be seriously dissin' on Nicolas Cage, so just go ahead turn your head and walk away if you're a fan. The rest of privileged enough to have a brain, here you go...

I'm gonna trash all of his movies here, but my personal favorite fail of his is Next. A movie where he can see everything two minutes before it happens, except (oh brother) when he's next to the girl of his dreams.

So the whole movie is just him trying to save after she gets kidnapped by the bad guys as a way to get him to do what they want. So towards the end he finally saves her, oh, but wait, a bomb goes off. I was just like "Heck yeah! Nic is dead!" Turns out, all 2 hours and 5 minutes of the film NEVER HAPPENED. He just saw the future cause he was next to the stupid girl. Great story right? You get see a bunch of stuff that's never going to  happen to this guy and then the movie ends and there was absolutely no story to it at all. Yea!

Now I would hate to deprive to let you go without hearing about the rest of his garbage. So here it goes.

I think I'm actually going to show you, lets see, how many of his movies have been rated 4 out of 10 or less on my favorite website: Rotten Tomatoes. The answer is a whopping  19.

19 movies that fall under the rating of "Not worth watching" Thanks there Nic.

Okay, for you Cage fans that ignored my warning I know you'll be like there are just as many good films as bad in his career. Oh yeah? Okay, well first lets point out that half of those he wasn't starring in and didn't have a big enough role to damage the movie, and then a fourth of 'em were when he was young and didn't even know how much money he was making.

Long story short. I will never see any of his movies again.

Holy cow!

Wow, I just realized today I haven't blogged on a single movie starring Ellen Page. I mean, come on right?

Okay, first off, Ellen Page is amazing. Second, she is also amazing. Third, she is amazing.

Yes, she is amazing. Why? Well. . .her acting, her sense of style in a movie, and also her continual passion for helping our environment.  Seriously, I could go on and on when blogging about this woman, but I shall keep it as brief as possible so that I won't lose you.

She has had a couple movies where she is the star, in all of her others she has just supported. Now if you know her, you'd probably expect a blog about Juno, but I'm going a different route.

This movie is called Whip It. A  movie about a small town girl from Texas who has been practically force to participate in beauty pageants by her mother. She finds a major passion in (of all things) roller derby.

Also, an important thing to know about her is that she's a shrimp. A personal nickname she has taken actually. "Shrimp" She is 23, and is about 5'2. So when I say "of all things" I mean roller derby is like hockey on wheels minus the puck. It's just a bunch of girls hitting each other down and giving as many bruises as possible.

The movie is somewhat predictable, but in a good way. How is that possible? Well the way it's written means while watching you see she's living two different lives and at some point they'll meet up with each other. If this was not the case, it would be a pretty bad movie. Now I'm not saying the movie is just another predictable story like Avatar. I'm saying it's a completely original story that keeps you entertained throughout.

If you like me at all, please see this movie and let me know what you thought.

Bow chicka wow wow

Dinner for Shmucks: I watched it.

I had heard mixed reviews of the movie, and reviews done by critics wasn't helping my decision either. They were all like "This movie was exactly what I expected from Steve Carrel" What the heck does that even mean? What do you expect from a guy who one second is the obnoxious Michael Scott, and the next second a depressed suicide survivor? I sure as heaven don't know.

Anyway, this movie was exactly what I expected from Steve Carrel.

No, but seriously, Steve Carrel did a phenomenal job with his peculiar role, as did Paul Rudd. I'm not a huge fan of Mr. Rudd but I saw his SNL and laughed, so I thought I'd give him a chance, and I am very glad I did. The movie is about a typical guy trying to get a promotion, and to do so (this is where it gets tricky) he has to attend a dinner he calls "Messed up" A dinner for Shmucks.

I couldn't stop laughing throughout the first 30 minutes of this movie, an then it went a little more to a dramatic side after that. It was weird to suddenly feel like I was watching a completely different movie, but it worked. The transition was slow enough that it didn't completely kill the movie.

Towards the end it picked up where it left off and I suddenly couldn't stop laughing again. I loved it.

P.S. I have no idea why I title this blog like that.

Dark Sunshine

Little Miss Sunshine is a movie from a few years back that won some awards, and got some attention. Not many comedies ever see much fame or recognition. However, once or twice a year we get a movie like this, and get to enjoy something besides an action packed romance, or a mind bending experience.

So, Little Miss Sunshine, starring Steve Carrel himself; This was during that period of his when he did some mello comedies such as this or Dan In Real Life.  He does a fantastic job. For some reason he is very good at being depressed, and that's not really a bad thing, especially if he continues to do roles like the one he had in this movie.

The movie is about a young girl who wants to with her family to the Little Miss Sunshine pageant. Now, if you have ever been to a pageant, you know it's just a bunch of girl trying to be barbies and display a crazy/cool talent.

Luckily, the movie is not just about the pageant, but more about the family, their characteristics, and the time they get to spend together. The family is absolutely ridiculous and hysterical which makes it out to be a very outrageously funny movie.

Gritty with excitement

"Why did they hang him so high?"
"I do not know, possibly to make him more dead"

Any guesses at the movie? If not, don't feel bad, it's not a very popular line. The movie is True Grit.

True Grit is all about a young girl who wants to avenge her father. Now you could say, "Well she could just pick up a hand gun if she got the license and pop him" The only problem is, it takes place in the old west and that was not going to work for a 14 year old girl.

This fact did not stop her from hiring someone else to do the deed, however. If you ever see this movie, you'll find out very quickly just how keen this girl is on everything law, and with that knowledge, she is able to get people to do what she wants.

The movie's script does not disappoint, and conversations that take place always make you want to smile by how well they're written. Another Coen brother's movie that comes out perfect; not too shocking, I know, but this western differs from that of No Country For Old Men. It goes back in time a little more.

I didn't like No Country For Old Men all that much, but script/casting of this movie was perfect, which just fills me with warmth.
